Organized at Camp Chase, Ohio under Colonel Andrew Legg

May 11, 1864

Mustered in and left State for Cumberland, Md.

May-June

Assigned to duty as railroad guard on Baltimore & Ohio Railroad at North Mountain, Opequan Station and Martinsburg. A portion of the regiment was captured at North Mountain after five hours resistance against overwhelming force and sent to Confederate prison camps. Only about half these men survived.
