June, 1861

Organized from detachments of 8th and 29th Regiments New York Infantry, most of the men coming from Company H of the 29th, and commanded by Captain Charles Bookwood of the 29th. Attached to Blenker's Brigade, Miles' Division, McDowell's Army of Northeast Virginia. The guns were left from Varian's Battery, the artillery company of the 8th Militia whse term had expired.
