In April of 1862 legislation changed the designation of militia units to "National Guard."

Nine companies organized at Albany under Colonel Michael K. Bryan, Lieutenant Colonel James Swift and Maor David Friedlander

April 22

Moved via special train to New York and then by steamship Parkersburgh for Annapolis, to Washington, D.C.

April 26

Landed at Annapolis and proceded to Washington

April 29

Reached Washington (the fifth volunteer regiment to do so) and attached to Mansfield's Command, Dept. of Washington, D.C.

May 23

Advance into Virginia

May 24

Occupation of Arlington Heights, Va.

June

Engaged in fatigue duty at Arlington Heights building Fort Albany.

August 4

Mustered out at Albany. The regiment lost three men to disease.

Left state for Suffolk, Va. assigned to 7th Corps
