Battle of Gettysburg

The 1st Division suffered 56% casualties of the 3,800 men it brought into action at Gettysburg, most on the first day's fighting west of town. Three regiments - the 24th Michigan, 2nd Wisconsin and 147th New York - lost over 70% of their men. After the battle the Iron Brigade was down to six hundred men, and received reinforcements from Dix's Department of Virginia.
