The 3rd Arkansas Infantry Regiment mustered 1,353 men during the Civil War.

Organized at Lynchburg, Virginia

July 5

Mustered into Confederate service "for three years or during the war" under Colonel Albert Rust. Lieutenant Colonel Seth M. Bartong was a Virginian and West Point graduate assigned to the regiment. Vannoy Hartog Manning, an Arkansas lawyer, was the major.

Cheat Mountain Campaign

1862

March 4

Colonel Rust promoted to Brigadier General and transferred to the Western Theater. Major Manning becomes Colonel.

Battle of Gettysburg

Assigned to Perry's Brigade of Anderson's Division. 17 men were killed, Major Walter R. Moore and 72 men were wounded, and 11 men were missing out of 479 engaged. Major Moore was captured.

Battle of Chickamauga

Major Reedy is killed. Camptain William Wilkins is promoted to major and takes command of the regiment.

Colonel Manning was badly wounded and captured, Lt. Colonel Robert Taylor was also wounded, but recovered to take over command of the regiment. Major William K. Wilkins was killed.
