William Baily
Union officer
William P. Baily was born in Wilmington. Before the war he ran an importing business in New York City.
On July 13, 1861 he became the lieutenant colonel of the 2nd Delaware Infantry Regiment . He was wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg on Dec. 13, 1862. By July of 1863 he had become colonel and commanded the regiment at Gettysburg, where he was wounded on July 2nd. He mustered out on May 16, 1864.
Baily died on Feb. 1, 1883 in North Plainfield, New Jersey. |
